The Oscar winner shared with Jimmy Fallon that prefers not to “look back” at her previous roles —including in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’
Anne Hathaway knows her Hollywood trivia — except when it comes to The Devil Wears Prada.
During a Monday, April 29 appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the actress and host connected over their shared competitive drive. As Hathaway, 41, explained how she’d worked to shed that persona, she added she did fall back into old competitive habits while playing a game of movie trivia recently.
“I was just having one of those like, runs where I couldn’t miss it. I just knew — and I was like surprising myself,” she told Fallon of hitting her stride.
“You know your stuff, you know movies,” Fallon affirmed.
“I mean, apparently I do [laughs],” replied Hathaway. “And then I got to this one question and they were like, ‘Oh, okay, so junior executive assessment Devil Wears Prada?’ I was like ‘Emily Blunt.’ And they were like ‘No…’”
Hathaway then quickly added, “It wasn’t her, it was me… I was genuinely confused because I was like, ‘But it’s her.’”
The Idea of You star then said that she’s “not huge on on looking back [on past roles].”
She said that after starring in The Princess Diaries at 17 years old, people still to this day quote it back to her. “People quote it to me all the time and I don’t know what they’re talking about — I don’t.”
The Devil Wears Prada starred Hathaway as recent grad Andy Sachs, who scored the coveted position of junior executive assistant for the intimidating editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, at fashion magazine Runway. She serves as the second assistant beside Blunt, who — much to Hathaway’s lack of memory — starred as Priestly’s senior assistant.
The 2006 movie was based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name.
Additionally at the premiere of her new romantic comedy, the Oscar winner shared that fans shouldn’t expect a potential follow-up to the beloved 2006 film with the original cast — including Blunt, 41, Streep, 74, and Stanley Tucci, 63. (Tucci starred as Nigel Kipling, the magazine’s art director and presumed successor of Priestly.)
“But from us, I wouldn’t hold out too much hope,” the actress shared in an interview with Extra.
The Idea of You is set to be released on Amazon Prime Video on May 2, 2024.
